Zombieland plays with a keyboard and mouse. Here is every key, where it works, and what holding one does.

01Out there

Move with the keyboard, aim and attack with the mouse. In a run, H shows or hides a reminder of these, and the menu (Esc) lists them all.

02Aiming

Hold the right mouse button to raise your weapon. With it up you face the crosshair, move at about 70% of your walking pace (a pistol lets you move more freely, the heavy guns less; slower still backing away) and can't run. With it down you face where you walk.

A gun only fires once it's up, which takes 0.18 s for a pistol and up to 1 s for the Rotary Cannon, which has to spin up. Click with it down and it comes up first, then fires; it stays up for 0.9 s after your last attack. A melee swing or a punch comes out at once, and Space shoves whatever you have in hand.

The crosshair is the real spread of your shots at that distance. It starts wide and closes as you hold still, in about 1.1 s; walking keeps it at half, and every shot opens it a little. It turns red over an infected you can hit, and grey past your weapon's range.

03Moving and stamina

You walk at 2.0 tiles a second, run at 3.0 and crouch at 1.1. Running spends stamina: about 11 s from a full bar. Empty it and you're winded, and can't run again until it's back to 30. Fighting up close costs stamina too: 13 a machete swing, 7 a punch, and none comes back for 1 s after a swing, punch or shove. A long fight leaves you winded: slower swings, no running.

Crouching makes your footsteps the quietest they can be. The infected page has how far each noise carries.

04In the camp

Nothing can hurt you in the camp, and hunger and thirst don't drop there. Walk up to a station and press E.

These work in the camp, on a run and on the results. A run keeps going under the menu, so open it somewhere quiet. Keys never reach the game while you're typing in chat or a field.
